EXERCISE

The numbers don’t lie. According to Fitness USA, 61% of all American adults are overweight, and less than 30% get 30 minutes of exercise each day. Over 300,000 deaths in the U.S. each year are attributed to obesity-related causes.
How do we make these statistics better? Exercise and healthy eating habits, of course. As an employer, you can encourage your employees to become exercisers in a myriad of ways.
- Set up a “Stairwell to Health.” Wellness Councils of America recommends this program, whereby employees are encouraged to take the stairs each day and thus can reap some of the benefits of exercising.
- Consider gym memberships. The insurance policy you provide to your employees may already have vital exercise-related perks included free of charge. These can include gym discounts and discounts on workout attire.
- Construct a company gym and add two showers. Lunch breaks may turn into crunch breaks.
Exercise serves many purposes: it helps maintain a healthy weight, improve overall health, increase life expectancy and can even, according to Runner’s World, make you smarter. Adding an exercise program to your wellness program may in fact revitalize your workplace.
