Mitigation

In order to qualify for any type of windstorm devices on your home today, you must have the following forms completed by a qualified inspector, a licensed roofing contractor, a licensed general, residential or building contractor, a licensed building inspector, registered architect or an engineer:

Florida Building Code Roofing Mitigation Verification Affidavit to verify if the roof meets the 2001 Florida Building Code or the 1994 South Florida Building Code.

The inspector will also verify the shape of the roof, i.e. Hip, Gable or Other

The inspector will verify whether the underlayment on the roof is a self-adhering polymer modified bitumen roofing underlayment (thin rubber sheets with peel and stick underside) or a foamed polyurethane sheathing adhesive applied over all joints in the roof.

The last thing verified is the Roof Deck Attachments – The inspector will determine how the plywood is attached to the trusses/rafters and if screws, nails, adhesives or other roof deck fastening systems used.

Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form for Opening Protection – The inspector will be looking for the weakest form of wind-borne debris protection installed on the structure for the following items:

·      Windows

·      Doors

·      Garage doors

·      Skylights

He or she will also note if you have impact resistant coverings (glazing), impact resistant glass, plywood or storm shutters.

Call your WWW Personal Insurance Agent - 800.783.5085 - to request these special forms and to answer your questions concerning what you can do to mitigate your losses.
